How much does a modular kitchen cost in India?

Five factors set the price of any modular kitchen. Understand them, and you can judge any quote you receive — including ours.

Ask five kitchen brands for a quote and you’ll get five different numbers, often for reasons that have nothing to do with quality. The honest answer to “what does a modular kitchen cost” is: it depends on five specific factors, and once you understand them, you can judge any quote you receive.

The five factors that set the price

Carcass material, shutter finish, hardware brand, storage accessories and kitchen size determine cost more than anything else. Two kitchens of the same size can differ by 30–40% in price purely on the combination of these five choices, which is why a single “average price per square foot” figure is rarely useful on its own.

Carcass material: the biggest swing factor

The carcass is the structural box behind the shutters, and it’s usually the single largest cost driver. Exterior-grade plywood is the most durable choice for Indian kitchens, standing up well to humidity and daily wear, and sits at the upper end of the price range. BWP (boiling water proof) plywood and pre-laminated particle board offer more budget-friendly alternatives, with particle board best suited to lower-moisture zones like a dry pantry rather than the wet zone around the sink.

Shutter finish: acrylic, PU, veneer, laminate

Finishes affect both look and price. High-gloss acrylic and PU read modern and reflective and sit toward the premium end; laminate is the most budget-conscious option and comes in a wide range of textures and colours; veneer brings real wood character at a mid-to-premium price point and ages beautifully with the right care. Read our full finish comparison guide for the durability and upkeep trade-offs between these three.

Hardware: why brand matters more than it seems

Hinges, channels and pull-out mechanisms get used dozens of times a day for years. Established hardware brands cost more upfront but hold their soft-close action and load capacity far longer than unbranded alternatives — the difference between a drawer that still feels new after five years and one that sags after one.

Layout and kitchen size

An L-shaped or parallel kitchen for a compact apartment will always cost less in absolute terms than an island kitchen for a larger home, simply because there’s less cabinetry and countertop involved. Layout also affects labour and installation time, which factors into the final number.

Realistic cost ranges for India

As a general guide, not a quote: modular kitchens in India typically fall into three broad bands. Budget kitchens with a laminate finish and particle board carcass sit at the lower end per running foot. Mid-range kitchens with PU or acrylic shutters and BWP plywood carcasses sit meaningfully higher. Premium kitchens with veneer or stone countertops, branded hardware and island layouts sit at the top end. Where your kitchen lands depends entirely on the five factors above, plus local site conditions like electrical and plumbing rework.
